Are Your Healthy, Or Just Not Sick?
By drazzari | July 7, 2010
Is good health determined by merely feeling good? The tens of thousands of people that experience their first heart attacks each year will tell you “no.” One moment they’re feeling fine, then suddenly they’re not. Over 40% of these people will die from their first symptom, the heart attack itself. Why do we wait for symptoms to decide whether or not we are sick?
Unfortunately, most people treat their bodies like they do their cars. Any mechanic will tell you that most repairs are the result of poor maintenance. That $500 repair bill could have been prevented with $50 worth of prevention. Our bodies require maintenance too.
Maybe if our vital organs were visible we would take better care of them. We brush our teeth everyday, right? That’s because we can see them. More importantly, it’s because we have made that process a habit. Taking care of the rest of you is merely becoming aware of how to do it, and then making a habit of doing it.
There is no secret to healthy habits. Most people understand that you need to eat right most of the time, exercise regularly and get plenty of rest.
Why not make a habit of regular check-ups to ensure a healthy status of the rest of you? Most people will tell you that they “don’t want to know.” Some are afraid that they will be told that they have a problem when they really don’t. By scheduling regular visits with doctors you trust, you will build a relationship with health “mechanics” that can help you stay healthy. Who likes to get sick?
Yearly physical, dental and chiropractic visits could make a huge difference in preventing a minor problem from becoming a major one. Why wait for a symptom?
